Intro

This blog is to track each book in my personal library as I reread them in chronological order. As of this post, I own 217ish books. 2 months ago I created a Google Sheet listing all of them. The tabs are organized by the sparse shelfspace I've had for the past few years; in the future, after designing and building my custom bookshelves, these categories will change.

For years I've been very selective of the books I own; except for rare, niche books I only purchase a book that I've already read. There are a few books that I want to add to my personal library, but my partner & I are about to buy a house so that will have to wait! I've been very active on Goodreads for years, especially for listing the books I still want to read.

Now that my to-read list is under 20 books and copies of each are hard to come by (yes I'm utilizing interlibrary loans, which take time), I'm starting to reread my books. As you can probably tell by my Google Sheet & Goodreads shelves, I have a strong preference for nonfiction about gender and religious studies. And yet my oldest books, the books that I've had the longest, and the books I've reread the most are all fiction! The first 6 books I'll read are fiction, over 1/5 of all my novels.

Whenever I finish a book, I will blog about it here. Many of them I can recall when I first read it, when I bought it or was gifted it, the story behind it if there is one, and why I decided to keep my copy. Some books I'll skim rather than read cover-to-cover, like my field guides, Bible, and copy of the Catechism - I'll blog about these too, but it'll be less in-depth. Series of books, such as The Narnia Chronicles and the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels (original black & white), are all listed by the first book in the series so I'll read them altogether as though they're each one long book.

Some of my books are very controversial, such as the first one I'll reread. I own these for reasons that I will articulate in my blogs about them; they're both historically significant and play a large role in who I am.

For those who have no idea who I am: Hi, I'm K! The day before I started kindergarten, I told my mother "I'll go to school just to learn how to read, and then I'll quit because then I'll be able to teach myself everything else!" That clearly didn't go as planned, as I eventually became a seminary dropout. I was raised Catholic in Chicago and was liberated by the second wave feminism books I found in my mother's basement. I'm a midwestern geriatric millennial and I studied art therapy in my Catholic, trans-inclusive all-women's college. Wicca of the turn of the century changed my life, and my New Years Resolution in 2013 was to become a less stupid white person. I hope you enjoy the trip through my personal library!
